The Day Pippi Stopped Eating Chicken: A Boston Terrier Food Allergy Story

How we discovered our Boston Terrier's chicken allergy and learned to navigate raw feeding the hard way.

Boston Terrier Pippi who developed a chicken allergy requiring protein rotation in raw feeding

If you met Pippi, the first thing you would notice is the energy. She is a five year old Boston Terrier with enough zoomies to power a small city. She is a professional at Cook Studio, usually found posing for client photos or pulling my bike around the neighborhood with more enthusiasm than strength. She is, in the most loving way possible, a total crackhead.

But behind the high energy, there was a much harder reality we had to face.

Harness on, boots on, zero quit. Classic Pippi.

We moved to a Boston Terrier raw diet to give Pippi the best life possible. We were doing everything right, or so we thought. Then, the symptoms started. We were dealing with a Boston Terrier chicken allergy, which is one of the most common food allergies in the breed.

What We Learned About Raw Feeding a Boston Terrier With Allergies

Suddenly, our simple meal plan became a massive puzzle. I had to learn everything about protein rotation and how to navigate a Boston Terrier chicken allergy while raw feeding without causing more drama. If you are currently navigating a similar situation, you can check out our raw feeding tools here to help manage those protein rotations. I spent way too many late nights researching what was safe and what was worth the cost. I learned the hard way what works and what fails.

Common signs of chicken allergy in Boston Terriers:

  • Excessive itching, especially around ears and paws
  • Red, inflamed skin or hot spots
  • Digestive issues: vomiting, diarrhea, or gas
  • Chronic ear infections

That Struggle Is Exactly Why Love Them Longer Exists

Every single tool on this platform started because I needed it for Pippi. I realized most pet owners are just as lost as I was. You want to make the best decisions, but you don't have a clear view of what things actually cost or what your specific breed is prone to. You shouldn't have to guess.

I built a free tool that pulls together exactly this kind of breed specific risk data, so you don't have to spend those late nights Googling like I did. Check your dog's risks right here.
